National Support Specialist

Ayusa International ( is a non-profit organization founded in 1981 to promote global learning and leadership through cultural exchange and leadership programs for high school students.  Ayusa places international high school students with volunteer host families and high schools throughout the United States.  Ayusa is part of the Intrax brand, a family of organizations that provide a lifetime of high-quality educational, work and volunteer programs that connect people and cultures.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the National Support Specialist offers a great opportunity for individuals who have experience working with teens and families from other countries and/or cultures to assist them with relationships and cultural understanding.  The position is based in our SF HQ office but may work remotely.

Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

  • Participate in on-call support services
  • De-escalate student, host family and partner issues
  • Assist in resolution of insurance claims for students
  • Cooperate with operations on preparation and review of CSIET/Department of State (DOS) annual compliance audit materials
  • Evaluate and reviews materials for orientations and program support training
  • Supervise the development of field staff training
  • Interact with the DOS and overseas partners on escalated student issues; as well as other duties relative to program support 



  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, behavioral health, communications or a related area
  • Minimum five years of direct management experience
  • Experience working in international education or student exchange
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • The ability to successfully mediate and negotiate with diverse individuals or groups
  • The ability to examine and re-engineer operations and procedures
  • The ability to exercise good judgement and collaborate in sensitive environments
  • Must pass a background check and possess a valid passport for travel
