Ayusa High School Study Abroad Application Deadline Is March 31, 2012
San Francisco, CA – March 7, 2012 – During a time of record college applications and increased competition from international students, U.S. high school students are looking for new ways to differentiate themselves to gain admission to their top colleges – including spending time studying abroad. Ayusa International, a thirty year old non-profit that promotes global learning and leadership through cultural exchange, study abroad and leadership programs for high school students, is currently accepting applications. The application deadline for academic year and semester programs is March 31st. Students interested in summer study abroad programs can apply through May, with programs beginning in June 2012.
Ayusa’s Study Abroad programs allow high school students to immerse themselves in a foreign language and culture by attending a local high school in another country for a summer, a semester, a trimester, or a full academic year. Ayusa offers high school students a variety of study abroad programs in Australia, China, Ecuador, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, and Spain.
“For students looking to differentiate their college applications, spending some time studying abroad in high school is the golden ticket,” said Joe Roma, director of Ayusa Study Abroad. “Ayusa students that study abroad return with dramatically improved foreign language skills, increased confidence, and a more balanced understanding of their place in the global community.”
Ayusa Study Abroad works with high school students and their families to prepare them for a study abroad program that will accommodate the students’ goals and academic schedules. Programs can vary in length from four weeks to 11 months. In addition, Ayusa offers short-term volunteer abroad programs for students in Belize, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru.
“My study abroad experience with Ayusa was exactly what is presented on their website - a life changing experience that takes you outside of your element,” said Ayusa Study Abroad participant, Rives Kuhar, a freshman at the University of Mary Washington who studied abroad during her senior year of high school. “Everyone that was a part of my Ayusa experience took the time to guide me on the cultural differences and traditions that I would experience, to ensure that I felt comfortable living abroad - not as a ‘foreigner’ but as a student in Spain.”
Ayusa Study Abroad offers long-term academic programs, short-term summer programs, faculty-led customized programs, and short-term volunteer programs. The program handles all the logistical arrangements including round-trip airfare from an Ayusa hub city, pre-departure and in-country orientations, placement with a carefully selected host family or in a residence hall, food and lodging expenses, enrollment in a local high school (academic year and semester/trimester programs), language and culture classes (short-term summer programs), student health and accident insurance, supervision, guidance and support throughout the entire program, and 24-hour emergency assistance. Prices range from $3,850 – $14,950 depending on the program and scholarship opportunities are available for eligible participants.
The application deadline for the 2012 Ayusa Study Abroad semester and academic year programs is March 31, 2012. Students can submit an application and secure a spot at www.ayusa.org/students.
